It’s nearly impossible in these years not to know about Facebook. Literally more than half the world has a Facebook. Even your Mom has one! Ok back to being serious because that is what the internet is all about.

Facebook is a social network site that started out strictly for college students and was available by invitation only. It is now a cultural phenomenon stretching across the world. With more worldwide users than MySpace, Facebook has taken hold as undisputable leader amongst social networking sites.

The network is made up of hundreds of separate networks based around schools, businesses and regions. Although registration is now open to the public, the site still caters to a college and high school demographic focusing on networking through groups and social activism. Facebook encourages using the site to establish relationships with people you already know and/or friends of friends.

Through "profiles", users are allowed to post pictures, comments, blogs and use apps! Additionally, it has some of the "best" privacy options on the Internet. To be honest the privacy settings aren't that amazing if you don't know what are you doing. The typical user won't even realize that there are privacy settings or won't even use them till they realize that a family member or a friend of the family can find out what they are doing just by search their name.

One of the major downsides to Facebook is it's lack of customization options. However, most users like the design and uniform feel of the site the way it is (you can find info a lot easier!). Choosing between MySpace and Facebook is really a matter of interface preference and going to where your friends are. Even though there is a choice, I believe the best choice is to not have one at all. You end up wasting a lot of time posting random information about yourself that you are going to regret when you apply for jobs or anything else in life.
